Legend of Zelda Review

Written by Ben

First Impressions: 5/5

When I first heard about a new game coming out called "The Legend of Zelda", I personally thought that this game would take place in the olden times. And since I had no idea that the name Zelda was a female name, I really didn't know what to expect. I thought that it would be graphically good, considering the best out there was the NES. I didn't know if it would be better than Super Mario Bros., though.

Gameplay: 9/10

I thought the gameplay was particularly good. Since it was the first Zelda game to hit the market, the story was great. But I thought it was kinda like Star Wars after the next couple of games came out. The story started out in the middle. It did not tell why the Triforce was in three parts, or why Zelda had the Triforce of Courage. But it was a good game, even though you did just run around and swing a sword. Wait...no, that's not true. You used bombs and boomerangs and bows and things like that.

Graphics: today, .5/5; then, 5/5

I had to give this one two ratings, one for today and one for then. The reason why today is only 1/10 is because, well, play OoT! WAY better graphics. But then, since the best thing out was the NES, it was pretty cool. Way better graphically than SMB. But I'm sticking with the "then" rating for the total.

Story: 20/20

Great story. Ganon captures Zelda, Zelda splits the Triforce in 8 pieces and Link has to find them all, destroying 8 monsters, some being re-incarnations of the others. Of course, Ganon is killed - no, defeated - and Link rescues Zelda. Pretty dang good, for the first Zelda, if you ask me.

Challenge: 4/5

The game was challenging not in the dungeons, but in the field, I thought. If you didn't have your big shield because the shield-monster ate it, then you were shot at with balls from the Zoras and arrows from the Moblins. That got on my nerves, because I kept dying because of them dang Zoras! Curse you!!!

Interaction: 12/15

Link doesn't really interact with the environment, village-wise. He does talk to people, though, like the shop keepers, the sword dude, and people in the dungeons.

Side-Quests: 0/5

No side quests whatsoever. Unless you call getting a candle and burning down a bush a side-quest. That made me mad after I played games like OoT and TWW.

Continuity: 2.5/5

It doesn't really explain the other Zelda stories, but it continues into the others. That's why it has a half-rating.

Music: 9/10

I loved the background music, the original Zelda theme in the field and the spooky theme in the dungeons. I think it sounded like ghosts!!

Overall Feel/Originality: 20/20

This has an awesome feel to the game. It kept me up 52 hours straight! (Yes, I recorded the time. Who doesn't?) It is original because, well, it's the original Zelda game. I loved this game. Rock on, Zelda!!

TOTAL: 86.5/100; a B

That's pretty good!

Buy It?

Yes.
